On-Line Anti-virus Scanners  Anti-Virus - Security Programs   Setting Up Your Computer

On-Line Anti-virus Scanners

Before you install an antivirus program it is important to determine your machine is not already infected. Use an "On-Line" antivirus scanner.  "On-Line" antivirus scanners do not reside on your computer but originate from a source on the internet. Once completing the scan, you will not have a permanent protection from future infections.  To protect your computer full time you must install a antivirus program that actually resides on your computer.

CA's eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner is a fast, easy to use antivirus tool capable of detecting and cleaning the latest viruses, Trojans and worms from within your web browser. The software is free of charge, and requires no additional components. All that is required for the use of the web scanner is an Internet connection, and Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 4 or later.
Note: If you are currently running other Antivirus Software on your PC, you should disable it until the eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner has completed scanning your PC

HouseCall like Active Scan can only detect viruses already on your system at the time of your visit.

Scan for Viruses will detect known viruses and Trojan horses, including the top threats identified by Symantec Security Response.   Scan for Viruses will not examine compressed files and will not fix files it finds to be infected. A detailed analysis will be presented when scanning completes to highlight your results.

Once your online scan shows clean, install a permanent AV program.
